A Provocative Exploration of Tension As part of the Crosses collection, the Cross Chair shares the same structural DNA as the Peach Easy Chair, yet it adopts a distinctly different geometry and seating function. At the heart of its design is an innovative mechanical tufting technique: we begin with a flat piece of foam and distort it using precisely engineered metal elements that pass through the upholstery. By foregoing adhesives or molded foam, we minimize waste and enable straightforward disassembly, cleaning, and eventual recycling—fostering a more sustainable approach to upholstered furniture.
These metal “crosses” aren’t mere ornamentation; they serve as both the visual and structural core of the piece, bridging disciplines such as architecture, textile design, and even jewelry-making. In contrast to the soft, pliable foam, the rigid metal elements highlight a sense of tension that provokes reflection on what “comfort” can truly mean. The result is a form that’s undeniably striking and emblematic of our belief that design can be both aesthetically daring and deeply rooted in responsible engineering. By celebrating this typically hidden aspect of construction, the Cross Chair challenges conventional ideas about upholstery—showing that a bold structural statement can also be a statement of sustainability.
